Lakes

Issyk-Kul is the jewel of Kyrgyzstan — the world's 6th largest lake by volume, sitting at 1,607 meters above sea level. It never freezes, even in winter. The name means "warm lake" in Kyrgyz, and its deep blue water surrounded by snow-capped peaks is unforgettable.

Higher up, Son-Kul (3,016m) is a vast alpine lake surrounded by rolling jailoo pastures where nomads spend their summers in yurts. Kel-Suu hides in a remote canyon near the Chinese border — a turquoise mirror that few travelers ever reach. And Ala-Kul (3,532m) rewards trekkers with an otherworldly blue that defies description.

Each lake has its own character, its own season, and its own way of taking your breath away. Crystal water, mountain reflections, and silence that echoes.
